Meet Our Leadership

 

Luci Spencer, President

Luci graduated from Illinois State University in 2005 with a bachelor's degree. While in college Luci worked for a fortune 500 company and remained there for 17 years, until she joined the family business and became a full-time member of J Spencer Construction. During her career, Luci held several roles in Customer Service and Human Resources. Luci also attended San Diego State University completing courses in Construction Project Management and Construction Documents and Law. In 2019 Luci was promoted to President of J Spencer Construction. Her primary role includes handling human resources, contracts, legal, and accounting, as well as managing the front office duties. Luci and Brock have three kids, Caroline, Amelia and Michael. In her spare time Luci enjoys reading and spending time with family.

 

 

Jim Spencer, Founder

Jim is a native of Central Illinois growing up in Downs and eventually graduating from Normal Community High School in 1969.  Jim has more than 38 years experience as a Union Carpenter. He studied Construction Cost and Bidding/Estimating at Drake University. He also earned an Associate’s Degree at Danville Community College. In 1981, Jim helped start AJS Construction which eventually became Anderson Spencer Co in 2000, and then in 2008 J Spencer Construction was born. Jim and his wife Minda have a son and daughter and five grandkids.  Jim has been involved in the community as an Alderman for the Village of Carlock.  During his free time, Jim enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing with his grandkids.

Frank Merritt, Carpenter Forman

Frank was born and raised on a farm. He graduated from El Paso High School in 1981 and played football and wrestled. He had 2 years of building trades in high school and has been in construction for 35 years and spent most of them as a working forman. Frank was a Forman/Project manager for Hoerr construction prior to coming to J Spencer Construction. He has knowlege in all fields of construction. He is married and has 3 kids. He enjoys snomobiling, boating, fishing and family functions. He specializes in commerical doors/hardware, framing, drywall, acousitcal tile ceilings, trim work, and cabinets.

 

 

 

Brock Spencer, Estimator/Project Manager  

Brock handles the estimating and project management duties for J Spencer Construction.  He grew-up in Carlock and graduated from Normal Community West High School. He is a graduate of Illinois State University's (ISU) Construction Management Program. Brock was awarded the American Institute of Constructors Associated Constructor (AC) Certification. For the AC examination of construction knowledge, he scored #1 at ISU and top ten percent in the nation. Brock also has a background in broadcast journalism and business, while attending the University of Missouri. After receiving his degree at Mizzou, he worked as a reporter and assignment editor at WHOI-TV (ABC).  Brock is married to Luci and they have two daughters Caroline and Amelia and a son named Michael. During his free time, he enjoys watching Mizzou, the Cubs, and the Bears.  While in the television industry, Brock had the opportunity to interview many interesting people including President Barack Obama, former Illinois Governors George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich and Rapper Snoop Dogg.  Brock has served as a member on the McLean County Chamber of Commerce Award Committee and has been an at-large member of McLean County Unit District No. 5’s Citizens Action Committee.
